Mangy

May 24, 2021 by Tim

Biomutant is finally coming out this week, and I am all aboard the hype train. I hope it’s every bit as wild as it looks, and I can’t wait to design my own little critter somewhere on the border between “cuddly plushie” and “I think it has rabies.”

It’s a bit like the craziness to hotness scale from how I met your mother. The hotter they are the more crazy they can be.

This sounds vaguely misogynistic, but I don’t watch the show.

A particular character on the show’s schtick is that he’s extremely misogynistic, and that concept came from him, so it definitely was. He’s played by Neil Patrick Harris. The general point of his character was to be obnoxious. He did a great job.

it didnt help that this character was proven right over half of the time
also i think you mispelled “hilarious” there.cause that is what he was.

I had never even heard of this. Looks very interesting in the trailer, hopefully it turns out good.

The game looks fun, but the developer commentary in the trailer sounds like the guy was put on the spot.

Why make it about ‘the typical corpo PR hype-man’ when the comment is about that particular dev talking in the trailer? You did this: -There’s something off with this fruit… -Oh, you’d rather it be that other fruit you usually get? I haven’t seen that dev trailer before, launched it to see how they’ve done it and often times it sounded like a poorly made Power Point presentation created by an introvert. Even yawned not long after the beginning and the eerie music (which was too loud btw) didn’t help with that. At the beginning it was really rough around… Read more »

Fair point regarding the comparison. As to rehearsing bit – you still need to have at least a general plan of what you want to talk about and that definitely was done for that video as it has a structure. Which indicates some preparation had to be done beforehands. Albeit maybe they’ve done it with audio edit, I don’t know. But even if that was an edit thing, knowing you’ll be doing something like that should encourage you to work on the speech delivery. Especially as it was Stefan Ljungqvist – game’s art and creative director who seemed to be… Read more »

That’s a lot of words to say, “unrehearsed.” The style that is used here is what you’d often see in behind-the-scenes footages for movies, or developer interviews for games. You’ll see a ton of it in a few weeks. You’re acting like someone surprised this guy while he was getting out of the shower.

I thought it was well done. It gives the viewer an unconscious idea of getting a sneak peak into something awesome. So while they’re viewing the beautiful graphics and hearing names like “Breath of the Wild” “Ratchet and Clank” they feel they’re discovering something new.

How mythology affects me: I see “gods” in phrases where I usually see “god”, and I wanna know the pantheon.

No, this is a one-off gag. He absolutely hasn’t been using them for huge storylines and major character arcs and worldbuilding for like the last seven or so years, in a giant 2.0 reboot of the original.

Hmm, so Ethan’s a polytheist. Hopefully we’ll explore religion in a future episode. Definitely an important topic for Zeke to cover, since it’s so important for humanity.
