You don’t need to, no, but you certainly could.

I do love Speck, but I feel his acid skin is a tad overpowered. He hasn’t met any resistance so far and I’d expect they’d be a bit more prepared against an alien species with the power to melt practically everything.

I’m thinking his race, for whatever reason, is on the very uncommon side. Maybe they rarely leave their home planet, maybe they’re like Nyrah and most of them were wiped out with Speck being one of the few that’s left, etc. Which would explain why they can sell off his slime for credits, it wouldn’t be worth much if it was super easy to get. So I’m guessing the other species are like “Do I feel like spending the extra credits to make sure my door doesn’t get melted by a race that chances are will never show up? Naaaahh”… Read more »

Also, we did get to know one thing he cannot melt. In Starcaster Chapter 3, Comic 5, a guard mentions Nivium as something that would be used for a Mimion cell, so they apparently cannot melt that stuff(or it is really slow).

His glove in this comic apparently does not melt.

I get the impression that’s what his walker’s made of. And really, we have no way of knowing whether the bulletproof thing is true or rumor, could just be hyperbole, people playing up a trait of a weird, uncommon alien race. We’ve yet to see him shot yet after all. And he was certainly worried about getting his organs crushed by a concussion grenade when the Grin threatened him, so there’s certainly ways to kill him, it’s just, people don’t seem to be armed specifically for fighting mimions because why would they be? I’m sure there’s plenty of ways to… Read more »

It’s made of Nivium.
He is apparently immune to fire and I’m guessing the sludge is an insulator, but quake bombs would kill him.

I don’t see him being bulletproof. Even if the bullet is dissolved, that doesn’t stop the momentum.

If the bullet is dissolved, there’s nothing for the momentum to push. An incredibly higher calibur bullet meant for piercing could penetrate it, but it might as well be a rubber bullet being shot at that speed.

momentum is conserved – if the bullets are instantly dissolved on contact with the slime, they’ve already transferred their momentum to it in that instant.

Also, don’t discount kinetic energy – it doesn’t matter if it’s a rubber or tungsten cored bullet once you go fast enough the difference becomes negligible – at 2.3km per second, a mere 7 times the speed of sound, that rubber bullet hits you with the same force as if it had been made of TNT and detonated in contact with you.

be that as it may, considering how much stuff Speck needs to just walk around and open a door (mechanical walker, glove, special slippers), it seems to be just as much a handicap. I imagine that if he slipped and took a tumble, he’d be on the fast track to melting right through the hull and suffocating in the depths of space. And if that happened, it’s not like someone could just reach out and pull him in.

Poor Speck is living one slip and fall away from a horrible death at all times.

Can we get more such background infos on races and organisations of this universe at the end of each Starcaster Chronicles chapter?

Hmhmhm…
But what would it be? An RPG could work, but it would probably need to be more live than just turn based. Also Tim apparently dislikes JRPGs so…
FPS would flat out not work. It’s not that kind of story. I could easily see it being a tactics game, but I’m not sure if there are enough protagonists for that.

Maybe a telltale like game? That would make the most sense for this type of story.

I feel like the universe just SCREAMS pen and paper RPG. Party of Federation commandos, bounty hunters, or members of a criminal organization, all from unique new races, aboard a custom starship zipping from planet to planet? Sign me the fuck UP.

I would pay damn good money for that, even for an unofficial module/expansion to an existing system (with some sweet art and lore, of course) rather than a whole new standalone game. But obviously that’s a hell of an undertaking and a lot to hope for.

One question on the theoretical removal of the Mimion glands. Have they tried a Mimion surgeon? It may improve the survival rate of the surgical team.

How they interact with anyrthing their planet besides the metal deposits? How they not sink to the ground? Does that mean they are low tech a tribe people?

Is this saying that Nivium Iron is expensive even for Mimions on theor homeworld, ot just the travel apparatus is expensive?

Hamstermer

See the comment above. Nivium is pretty common on their homeworld, so its safe for them to walk about. Also this means that they have reliable access, but I get the feeling that the environment is…different than most planets. You don’t get omni-dissolving muck through calm, life rich seas and pleasant mild summers.

I suppose the ore is easy to get when you’re on niven II, it’s the refining process that has to be a logistic nightmare
the thing is mimion proof, after all

I love our Dynamic Duo as much as the next fan but they did have a nice long story earlier this year and I’m hoping that the campaign gets their turn after this. But I’m happy with w/e Tim puts out so I would be happy either way. 🙂

I bet Gorb is gonna need a nice long hug from someone when all this is over. Too bad he’ll probably be too traumatized by everything Speck has said and done to him to accept the hug, but that’s his problem.

melting hands is not his thing he not do that unless it was life or death. however he might melt the controls after he has set it up orfind some rope or wire or the like to bind the guy up and get him off the hook for letting them go

Couldn’t Speck pull out a can of tomato soup, claim it is a complex mechanism which will spray out droplets of goop if Syrn inteferes, and then leave? Because melting fingers is kinda exhausting.
