Jum…I assume he never told Lucas about that last conversation, because I could have expected then Lucas telling him that he should text/call back and remember how the things “ended”… although maybe he never ghosted her but she just have “selective memory”.
Maybe not a conversation to have in the store where she is “pretty sure he is being manipulated”

Reeaaaaallly hoping Ethan sticks to his guns on this one and just tells her to get fucking lost, but since that would be a fairly short resolution of the drama, short of her deciding to stalk, hurt, and/or kill him somehow (wouldn’t THAT be a shock?) we’re likely to see this gaslighting attempt work, at least partially.

Huh. When did she tell him not to come back? Their last verbal interaction was “Showdown, p10” (October 31, 2025)
I don’t think we saw it anywhere, it was probably just in one of those 312 or prior messages. We’ve seen him check his phone a lot and grimace. My guess is during one she was like “Well, if you can’t tell me where you REALLY went, you might as well never come back! I don’t want to see you again!” etc.
She told him to choose between her and Lucas, and Ethan told him that was not ok and left. Still, I think after the first messages and phone calls, Ethan should have wrote her back a short “I am ok, please stop calling”. I am sure Lucas would have told him that, but Ethan did not told him what happened.
Yeah, permanently leaving her on read after a fight (even one that shouldn’t have happened in the first place) as she’s spinning out of control is not very responsible. No matter if she’s like this or not. Something like “I’m ok. I’m not ready to talk to you yet” could be honest.
Yes. That’s when she told him not to come back. “If you don’t care about this relationship, go. I’m not going to be the only one fighting for us. So choose– HIM OR ME.” isn’t open to interpretation. She’s very directly telling Ethan that their relationship is over if he goes to help Lucas instead of staying with her.

The title of this chapter gives me a really nasty feeling that eventually Ethan is going to wake up in her basement chained to the wall (which, in turn, will force him to mentally “wake up” from being in a normal relationship with Nicole). I kinda hope that doesn’t happen, but there are definitely ways for this story to get dark.
And straight into a field with more of them near suspicious looking little discs…

I was the role of Nicole after my first break up. At first I wasn’t aware I was capable of it, but it’s definitely something one can learn to handle with time and effort.
Manipulation hurts both you and your circles. If you’re struggling to change like I have, open up for help, maybe read selfhelp books and talk to someone. Also go no-contact on those you hurt to ensure your and their lives become better.
