i dunno. some of the earlier scenes involved saving throws. like when he matrix dodged a attack. it was the third page of this particular arc, and the one where number 1 decided to call bullshit on the dice rolling constant 18s 19s and 20s.
I mean this seems to be d&d so he shouldn’t roll reflex (or *anything* for that matter) against an attack roll.

I have always enjoyed the fact that the game they play is never named. Since terms like Reflex Save, Strength Check, and Skill Points are seen in games all over the tabletop genre, there’s no room for rules lawyers to come in with “Well aktchualllly..”
Much earlier in this campaign arc story, the game was revealed as Pathfinder 1st Edition, but I have no idea what it is now.
Doesn’t matter much as many GMs fudge or make up rules, anyway. In Pathfinder 2nd Edition, a GM tried to murder my character during a surprise round. PF 2E doesn’t have surprise rounds.

The game was originally named as Pathfinder 1st, and there are different types of traps in Pathfinder that have different methods of hitting their targets. This appears to be a spell trap. Hence the off-brand Illithid a few pages ago. “Kobold” seems to be fine though. No cease & desist from WotC for that one.
Simple reason for that. “Kobold”, like many classic RPG monsters, are from mythology, in this case, German. You can’t copyright that any more than you could copyright Elves or Dragons because nobody owns folktales.
No such case for Illithids. They’re a D&D creation and thus fully copyrighted.
Illithids a D&D creation? Barely. They pretty much ripped off HPL. The artist named them “Cthilidu”, presumably to point out WotC hypocrisy. If not, that’s equally amusing.
Granted the ripoffyness is obvious but it’s not a carbon copy. Mindflayers in D&D are a race of squidheaded humanoids, rather than the unique godlike being Cthulu. Illithids don’t exist in any other mythos, to the best of my knowledge, including Lovecraftian.
Since there’s clearly pre-existing art, WOTC couldn’t possibly copyright “all tentacle faced monsters with psionic powers”, but they can completely copyright the Mindflayer race based on that concept.
Sounds like a silly distinction but amusingly enough this protects parody work such as this comic as well, which is by definition copyrighted, even when it uses obvious references.
Even if it was D&D (which it’s not), it appears to be a trap. Those can require a variety of saves, including Reflex, to avoid them.
No, it’s probably one of those dice that only work when people insist dice obey the laws of physics and on a properly balance die there’s always roughly a 5% chance of landing on any side, and any deviation from that is just a statistic anomaly caused by sheer luck. If everyone actually believes they’re good dice, they get performance anxiety.

lady luck is one fickle woman
I have a die that does exactly this. I roll high for the first part of the session and get several natural 20s. Then it will suddenly turn on me and consistently roll lower than a 6 for the rest of the session. I learned to swap dice when this starts to happen.

rule of universe, when one has such incredible good luck for so long, sooner or later, the luck will shatter, and they will have just as much incredible bad luck coming to them as the universe balances itself. this applies to all forms of luck, not just dungeons and dragons dice. you either go to far and it breaks. or you realize your pushing your limit, and back down BEFORE it breaks and enjoy what you already gains. sadly, it looks like 2 pushed the limit and its breaking.

But over a thousand rolls, it always averages out to 10.5.
No, not easily. The chance of getting a mean roll above 14 over twenty trials is like 0.02%.
