I think the red shirt did a great mistake letting a living animal near 4. I hope number 2 doesn’t become like Star Trek meme trying to save to poor chicken

So…where could he have gone that he came back with a live chicken in ten minutes? I thought they lived in an apartment. Those aren’t usually next to a farm. Also, what are the 20 sides of a chicken?

I’ve lived in an apartment where I could have gone and picked up a live chicken in less than ten minutes. There was a place that sold live chickens nearby. Presumably the idea was they’d kill it for you, but I’m sure they’d have sold a live one for the same price.

Plenty of in-town backyard chicken coops for fresh eggs in many cities (depending on local ordinance). And when they stop laying, fresh chicken dinner.

You can also grow feed rabbits (as a chicken substitute in most meals) and use the manure to double your garden output. As rabbits are rhizophagous and often food passes through them without complete digestion, and as such their manure does not require treatment like other animals (pigs, cows, etc.) to be used as a fertilizer.

Where I live you can have a certain number of hens on your property within city limits. If you want even a single rooster or if you go over the allowed number of hens then you have to go to city hall and pay for a livestock permit or have your property rezoned for mixed use (I think I have that terminology correct).

I bike commute in a city and there’s one house with a front yard chicken coup on the route. Not even a side street but one of the main roads through this side of town. Would take me a bit longer than 10 minutes by bike but by car I could theoretically “Acquire” one and be back in 10 minutes.

I know this is not a console wars comic. But this just popped up for me on Quora. The person asked why someone would buy a console if PCs are better. I had two points to answer that and I wanted the opinions of those here, please. My first point is simply a console is cheaper than a gaming PC. And not a couple bucks. My PS4 new was a quarter of what it cost to get a gaming PC. The second seems to be staying power. I wrote that PC’s were like candles twice as bright. They age out… Read more »

While a console is cheaper than a gaming PC, I find that PC games are usually so much cheaper than console games, that it completely offsets consoles to the point where PC gaming is way cheaper in the long run. I mean, for example, I’ve got nearly 200 games on my Epic gamestore account (great games by the way), and I’ve never spent a penny on it. Not to mention the sheer number of discounts you typically get with PC games. As for staying power. While what you said used to be true. I’ve found that technology is moving along… Read more »

I’d like to add that the multiplayer experience is much smoother on console, from couch co-op to online play. Everyone on the same hardware, same OS, same controls. Generally no antivirus, third party cheats, or other background apps affecting connection stability and gameplay. A dedicated ecosystem for gaming.

“Everyone on the same hardware” Except no, because there’s mid-cycle upgrade, cross-gen games, and cross platform games. Get in a game of Rocket League or Fortnite – one person’s on PS4, another on Xbox One X, another on PC, another on Switch. “same OS” See above. “Same controls” Nope. Even ignoring the above, if I’m playing CoD on Xbox One with a standard controller, my opponents could have Elite controllers. On PS4, my opponent could have the DS4 truck nuts or whatever Sony called that add-on. On PS3, I used to play Killzone 3 multiplayer with the PS Move controller,… Read more »

There was a news article only the other day about exporting the video output of the game through a separate unit, which analysed the image for human shapes, then sent a signal through a third party device (like a Kronos Max – used a LOT on consoles) to move the controller to obtain a headshot / bodyshot (set by user preference) in as little as 10ms. For humans, the median (average) response time is just over 200ms. So you’d win every time using the cheat. And because of the setup, it is undetectable to all anti-cheat systems, because it doesn’t… Read more »

Except that one player is consistently out performing expected human behavior by a factor of 20. That’s how cheaters get caught, by falling outside the norm of expected behavior.

I was in agreement with you until you brought up DRM. Nobody brings that up because it’s a wash. Look up “CBOMB” for PlayStation. PlayStation Network is also a giant DRM authentication server, and if PS3 is ever disconnected from it and can’t authenticate anymore, you lose all your digital games. If PS4 is ever disconnected, you lose every single game, digital and physical. PS5, all digital games gone is confirmed, but the jury’s still out on physical. Xbox isn’t safe either. Look up “The Xbox Series X has a big DRM problem | MVG” on YouTube. The internet has… Read more »

Main 3 are cost, longevity, and ease.

  • Consoles are cheaper than PCs. There’s a reason why but the fact still remains.
  • A PC will have a hard time lasting 8 years and playing the latest games for those 8 years without upgrades. A console will last as long as the console cycle does (barring break down).
  • PCs are far more prone to error and bugs than consoles. Consoles are far more of a “plug it in and play” device than PCs.

1-true, but PCs have more uses than just gaming and movies
2-false, my previous PC lasted 10 years, after which I just upgraded the GPU and I can still play all games with almost ultra settings
3-mostly false: consoles also have bugs and issues, but it’s true that they are more plug and play

Now let’s talk about why PCs are better:

1- High end PCs are far superior than any console
2-Cheaper games
3-Retro compatibility: all your games will play, always
4-Emulation
5-MODS!
6-Last but not least: ALT+TAB !

You don’t even need a high end PC. Keep in mind that console generally play on outdated hardware in comparison, and in low-to-medium settings, at lower upscaled resolutions.

A lot of it comes down to taste and preference. I’ve been a console gamer for a long time because I always had a laptop I could use through work for any non-gaming needs. Games on PC aren’t always cheaper either. I got into a pattern for a while where I’d wait towards midway through the life cycle of a console and then buy one. By then you can usually pick up the “Game of the Year” edition of the top titles for around $20-30 and get all the DLC content included. For emulation, pretty much everyone these days has… Read more »

True, they’re not ALWAYS cheaper. But as an example, Humble Bundle & Epic frequently give away free games. GOG has also done so. Meaning it’s extremely easy to make a huge catalogue of games without spending a cent.

And that’s without consideration that Steam regularly has sales (as do most stores) that can reduce a game to almost nothing for a collectors / special / game of the year edition. (And you can make significant profit in steam by selling in game items like CS weapon skins, thereby giving you money to buy even more games and repeat the cycle.)

Series X has retro compatibility to most of the games since the original XBox, nowadays it’s hard to get a 3D card thanks to bitcoin miners cheaper than two next gen consoles, and thanks to GamePass playing in console has become the equivalent of Netflix

My PC’s graphics card is a 980ti, which was released in June 2015. We’re now 6 years on, with no updates (my CPU and Mobo are older than the GPU) and I can still run most new games on a mix of high / ultra settings (I do disable motion blur and depth of field blur cause they annoy me) with reasonable framerates. Technology of PC’s used to be completely obsolescent after only 2-3 years. These days it’s more like 10 before you can still play games, but you’d be using low graphics settings to get a decent framerate. And… Read more »

Strong disagree with point two. Just because new hardware comes out every year or two doesn’t mean you have to upgrade it. You can use the same graphics card for a few releases, and CPUs tend to last even longer than that. I used an i7-3770 from 2012 to 2019. Most of that same PC stuck around for the same amount of time. I only ever really upgraded the graphics card, and it certainly wasn’t every year. And really, consoles lose in staying power. When your current graphics card can’t keep up with games anymore, you buy a new graphics… Read more »

I’ve read these ‘gamer’ comic segments of Tim’s over the years. I am curious if he ever thought of the fact that, although they can all be jerks at times, the three male characters tend to come off as competent, sane, and not gross or homicidal most of the time. The sole female character seems to get the lion’s share at least of the dialgue that is vastly creepifying and disturbing or otherwise just does seem to be in her right mind most of the time. I am curious if that was a conscious choice or not and if it… Read more »

Let’s face it, if that personality had been assigned to one of the males, somebody would’ve pointed out the trope of male RPG players being psychotic and creepy. Had she had a more ‘normal’ personality somebody would’ve pointed out the stereotype that the female is the most levelheaded in a group of RPG playing nerds.

So while I can see where you’re coming from, I could see wher anybody making this kind of argument could be coming from, but it never occurred to me personally until reading your post.

Don’t roll the die before you need it because you’ll use up your good rolls. Always roll out the bad rolls before you need the die. Once you have a good roll, don’t let the die sit idle for too long lest it “get cold.” Your first set of dice is sacred. Don’t ever discard or mix them with other dice. Always lay your dice with the lowest number facing up. Always lay your dice with the highest possible number facing up. Never allow ANYONE else to roll your dice. Sharing is not caring. Sharing lets in the monsterous bad-luck… Read more »

I like that 3 says you can’t sacrifice a chicken in the middle of a game. This sorta implies that he’s okay with sacrificing chickens at other times.
